If you’ve been reading for a while, then you know I love my workout titles: Push Up Palooza, Cardio Countdown, ARMageddon.
When I work out, I tend to keep a phrase, or word, in my mind that I keep repeating. Not only is it motivating, but it keeps me focused on what I’m supposed to be doing. The phrases are always different and are usually just the title of the workout. For Cardio Countdown, I can be found singing “It’s the final countdown…” in my head. Just that little bit seems to be enough to keep me moving.

All kinds of mental motivation going on here. Climbing up the sheer cliff face in Zion National Park.
I think part of the reason I failed the Weekly Challenge from two week’s ago, and didn’t even make one last week, was because I didn’t have a catch phrase to hang on to. It felt more like I was just slogging along instead of being mentally, not just physically, invested in what I was doing.
So, I have decided to give the Weekly Challenge’s names. Not only is it fun for me to name them, but it will give me some mental motivation to keep working.
This week’s challenge is called, “Burning Time”. I decided to take the plunge and have all the moves be timed. You know, just to wreck the routine (harhar).
I also have to add the following to this week from what I didn’t complete two week’s ago:
- Wall Sit – 4 minutes
- Plank – 9:48 minutes
- Cardio (any) – 72 minutes

Jump rope is such a great idea!!
And, I’m going to be joining you on the push up one!!
Woot! It’s nice to have company on these challenges. Good luck!
Yes to self-mantras! Or even workout mantras… That Zion hike looks intense! I love that you set these challenges for yourself. Good work!
Thanks, Holly! The Zion hike is intense, but definitely worth it.
I have to mentally tell myself things while I’m working out too. Usually, whatever exercise it is, during the first few reps I’m not thinking anything, then towards the end I think 5 more, 4 more, etc and counting down really helps me to give it my all for the final few.
Glad to hear someone else keeps up the mental talk!
