Happy Monday! (That’s my effort at being excited for the work week. Did it work for you?)
Rob and I got up early on Saturday morning (4:45 am) and headed over to an area of town with wider streets and minimal traffic to do our long run in prep for the Angkor Wat Half Marathon. We wanted to beat the morning motorbike traffic and blazing sun. It was a smart decision because once that sun popped, it was hot!
I logged 7 miles in about 1:04:00 with 10×1 minute pick ups thrown in as an attempt to avoid long-run boredom. A little on the slow side for me, but I feel more prepared for this race than I was for the Mui Ne Half we ran 2 months ago. I actually had to walk during that race, something I hate doing. I still managed to get second though! (I won’t tell you that there were only 60 people in the race…oops.)
Please excuse my all blue post-race outfit. That was really poor planning on my part and we know my clothing issues. At least it’s my favorite color.
The rest of the weekend was mellow as we did some errands, caught up on school work, and spent some time by the community pool.
The best part about Mondays? Weekly Challenge! So, without further ado, here it is:
- MK (Mary Katherine) Lunges
- Walking Push Ups – Get into a push up position. Instead of doing a push up, move your right hand and right foot forward, then your left, so you are “walking” in a push up position. Do a few forwards, then a few backwards.
- Drea Rolls – With or without the jump.
- Squat Jacks
Most of these moves are P90x inspired, which may make it one tough week. Good luck!

Hey brooke,
Quick question for you. So I am trying to lose a few pounds and as far as cardio goes, what is the best way? I’ve been doing 30 minute interval runs somedays and 50 minute elliptical/bike others. What do you think is the best cardio outlet for losing weight?
Thank you so much for the new weekly challenge…love it!!! (Even though anything to do with doing push ups kills me!! :))
30 minutes interval runs are great! From all the reading I’ve done, you don’t want to run much more than that because your body goes into “save it” mode. The other things I’ve read say to lift weights. So, you could try 2 interval runs a week and 2 lifts a week with a cardio warm up and cool down. I would add in some core as well just to have your body doing different movements. Try it and let me know how it goes! Good luck on those push ups!!
