What is happening?
First, a 16 year old in Texas steals beer, drives drunk, kills 4 people, and gets 10 years probation due to some made up thing called affluenza. Basically, his parents never set boundaries, so he cannot be held accountable for his criminal decisions.
Next, another school shooting. On the anniversary of Sandy Hook, a few miles away from Columbine, down the street from where Rob and I live. The students motive? Revenge on a teacher who disciplined him back in September.
When will the students of this country start being held accountable? What kind of model are we setting when murder is now no big deal? When opening fire in a school is becoming as normal as the sun setting?
The part that scares me the most? How will the media spin the interaction between the teacher and the shooter to make it the teacher’s fault for the student doing what he did? Am I about to find myself in a profession that requires me to go to work armed?
Schools have always been a safe place to me, but now I am left wondering if they are becoming one of the most dangerous places.

I didn’t know about any of this – mostly because I avoid the news because it is always so depressing!!!
That’s the exact same reason I avoid the news as well. Unfortunately, the CNN press conferences have interrupted my horrible taste in TV.
I hated reading about this on Friday 🙁 So, so sad. Colorado (or any US state) does not need any more of these shootings 🙁
